17 Days of Nothing, then WHAM!

So, instead of television, a movie watched streaming on Netflix! Yay!

I don’t know how many of you may have seen this, but in case you haven’t: Penelope, starring Christina Ricci and James McAvoy and produced by Reese Witherspoon, who is also in the movie. It’s a beautifully set, beautifully filmed fairy tale set in that delightful land somewhere between here-and-now and once-upon-a-time that you find so often in Tim Burton (or even Pushing Daisies) where manmade things seem to have grown and natural ones handcrafted. And while the point is a little heavy-handed, it’s so wonderfully performed (and delightfully plotted, with some unexpected twists) that it’s hard to care.

I felt the rush of a thousand heartbreaks )

So watch it, if you haven’t. It’s only an hour and a half long, and it’s just delightful, and I loved it. Charming, enchanting, and a dozen other magical words.

Oh, I do love the Oscars.

Do spoilers count for an awards show, once it's aired? )

FAIL, ABC

I am very, very upset with ABC right now. I kind of feel like someone died (not someone I knew very well, obviously, but someone I thought would live for a very long time). Ned and Emerson are shocked and saddened, too. :( My only consolation is that now people know who these actors are: Lee Pace is getting cast in all sorts of things, Kristin Chenoweth is popping up all over, Anna Friel can do an American accent. I hope to see them in lots of new things, because they're all wonderful. (Also, poor Lee Pace, what with his doing an awesome job in fantastic shows that get cancelled prematurely.) Is there any chance of saving it?

I am also now going to watch all of Dirty Sexy Money in protest, because apparently that was good, too. I watched the pilot of Eli Stone and didn't like it at all, so I'll skip that one.

And now, The Office (SEE GUYS, THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DON'T CANCEL A GOOD SHOW):

Frame Toby )

ETA: More Office )

And let's all drool together!

I would like to take a minute to be utterly shallow and post this video: People's 100 Sexy Men in 1 Minute, in preparation for their Sexiest Man Alive issue.

Go watch. I'll wait.

Back?

Did you catch Hugh Laurie? David Boreanaz? Neil Patrick Harris? John Krasinski? Awesome. :D And those are just from the shows I regularly watch and comment on. There's also Christian Bale (who does the impossible and makes perfect pretty features look completely badass; being Batman probably helps), Michael C. Hall (I never post about Dexter, but I should, because it's excellent. Also, the credits sequence is the creepiest/sexiest thing I've ever seen), David Duchovny (can't lie, liked him better 10 years ago, but still), about half the men of Lost and all the boys of Gossip Girl, Daniel Craig (Laurie, that one's for you), Peter Krause (which made me scream, because ever since I watched that show it's been EVERYWHERE, and also I love him), Michael Phelps (who I didn't see in the video but did in a list) and, you know, basically everyone you'd expect. Too many to name.

Now let's name people who are missing, because that's half the fun of these things. I'll start: LEE PACE. WHAT THE HELL. You couldn't throw the show a bone? (Hee.) Plus, he's too adorable for words.

Also, who shouldn't be there? Personally, I've always found Patrick Dempsey stunningly unattractive and creepy, but I realize I'm in a minority there. :P

What do you guys think?

(P.S. Check out that tag list. Man.)

Can we play this game every morning?

I am utterly in love with Ned. And Lee Pace - I've been watching some of Wonderfalls (which is AWESOME, by the way), and he's just always adorable in everything he does. And now I want to watch Miss Pettigrew again. :D

Chuck is growing on me. I used to not like her for no reason I could discern, but she's growing on me. I still love her dresses and shirts and shoes and invariably hate her pants and hats (and occasionally make-up). Like what she was running around in today: high-waisted skinny cropped pants? Ew.

Olive-as-nun is the MOST AMAZING THING EVER. I particularly loved it last episode, but this one was great, too. And Kristin Chenoweth is all kinds of amazing and adorable.

There are rumors/worries going around that Pushing Daisies will be cancelled because of the low ratings. I, for one, don't think it will, at least not soon. Critics adore it, word-of-mouth is exclusively good, and, more importantly, after a 9-episode first season, it was nominated for TWELVE Emmys. More nominations than episodes. Also, it's on ABC, not FOX, so it's at least got a fighting chance. :P I'm sure it's really expensive to make, but I kind of feel like it'll be ABC's 30 Rock: winning awards, with a small adoring viewership, not doing well in the ratings but not getting cancelled all the same.

At least, I really, really hope it doesn't. The only show that's ever been cancelled WHILE I was watching was Miss Guided, and though I'm disappointed (it was cute!), I'm not really surprised at that (it was kind of mediocre and no one watched). If Pushing Daisies is the next, I will be very, very upset.

I still haven't seen House 4x02, but...

I hate Jennifer Morrison's blonde hair. I know she's a natural blonde and all, but she's got brunette coloring, and when your coloring looks better with your dyed hair, you stick with your dyed hair (yes, Gillian Anderson, I'm also talking to you). She's such a pretty girl, but the blonde washes her out and makes her look completely generic, as well. Add to which the fact that lately it's been such a dull, flat style, and basically, I just hate it. Please, go back to the brown.
